All Circles are entitled to put up candidates, whose applications are screened by the board at the Half-yearly Board Meeting. The points taken into account are - (a) the merit of the child (b) the family background, both social and economic. The Circle putting up the candidature interviews the applicant beforehand, and upon award of scholarship, monitors the performance & gives feedback to the Board. The scholarship is awarded to an extent of 50% of the fees.
Scholarships are disbursed to candidates for vocational training as well as completion of academic studies such as Engineering, Medicine, Teacher Training and graduation. Scholarships are also given to Primary and High School Students.
Generous donations will help LC India tremendously towards reaching out to many. India will perhaps have many more bright-eyed children, shining with the excitement of new knowledge acquired.
RAJAT JAYANTI STHREE SAHAYA :
LC India has formed a Charitable Trust whose main objective is to aid destitute women. Rajat Jayanti Sthree Sahaya Fund was instituted by Past Presidents & past members of LC India in 1994 to commemorate the Silver Jubilee year of LC India. It came into operation in 1995. Rajat Jayanti Sthree Sahaya funds are disbursed to needy, destitute women.
EDUCATE TO ENLIGHTEN :
LC India has adopted "Educate To Enlighten" or "ETE" as its long-term project at the just concluded Agm at Mysore. It is a 6-point programme focussing on the Quality of Education in schools-
1. Adhyapana Sahaya-Providing financial assistance for needy students,
2. Provide hygienic sanitation,
3. Conducting health camps,
4. Provide tools for schools and building infrastructure,
5. Providing mid-day meals,
6. Facilitate in improving the educational environment.
- Financial Support enables the needy and deserving to access education,
- A hygienic environment and good health is essential for enabling the children to attend
regularly,
- Education requires tools like stationary, blackboards, books etc. a well ventilated and covered
building eliminates the vagaries of nature and allows education to be imparted unhindered,
- Healthy kids need to be provided mid day meals, to be inclined towards education
- A good educational environment is required to bring about enriched, wholesome education to children, retain them and enhance the efforts and abilities of the educators by making them more child-centric.
The first five tangible aspects are already being wonderfully implemented by Circles at their discretion and are well understood by all.
Pertaining to the 6th aspect- educational environment, a programme was conducted by Dr. Reddy's Foundation for Human and Social Development at Hyderabad. After an interactive brainstorming session at this recently concluded workshop, the Facilitator- Dr. Vishnu Priya, an HRD Professional associated with DR. Reddy's, imparted training as to how we could facilitate and motivate-
The Principal,
Teachers,
Parents and
The community at large
to improve the educational environment and make schools more child-centric.
Participants came up with a draft booklet to enable Circles to take up these suggestions at the Circle level. Example of some of the suggestions are-
to enthuse principals to increase parents and community participation through regular parent teacher interactions,
to encourage the formation of class committees/groups for greater student participation in school activities.
Essentially this aspect of the Long term Project focuses on developing the soft skills to improve the intangible quality of education imparted. One of the ways in which the Circles could take this up in conjunction with their ongoing tangible efforts is by spending some time during their projects in having a meaningful interaction with the Principal/Teachers and the parents, talking about the virtues and methods of participation by all in the betterment of the school.
It is thus hoped that by adhering to the 6-point programme under the banner of "Educate to Enlighten" we shall be able to provide an all-round emphasis on the quality of education being imparted. |
