Ladies Circle International Conference In Estonia in Aug, 2007

National President Mona Shanghvi and myself reached Frankfurt Airport where we met Vice President Uma Raghunathan at the terminal and we boarded for Stockholm. From Stockholm same day we took a flight to Tallin. Circlers from Estonia Conference Committee were there to receive us at the Airport. Reached Hotel Sukos with Cr. Ula from Germany and Circlers from Belgium at 4.00 p.m. on 22nd August 2007.

Next day at 9.40 in the morning reached the Conference hall to attend Councilors meeting. Got to know by International President Cr. Tracey that –

1. Dutch foundation is working on muscle and nerve disease.

2. Dutch ladies want to give education to poor children.

3. 16 Charters in 11 countries were done.

4. LC India Circlers were cyclists in Belgium

5. Methods to be found to attract new members to join Ladies Circle .

6. There was debate on increasing Ladies Circle members age. Although 45 years have already been accepted internationally.

7. GBI proposed for making 100 Toilet Blocks in India and this proposal was accepted internationally. 720 € for 2 Toilets sanctioned.

On 24th of August Round Table International President Tr. Aworon addressed the gathering.

On this day best event of my trip happened when our I.P.P. Cr. Seetha Venkatesh won election for International Vice President . We were honoured to know that all countries of world have faith in India . Shilpa Gupta and Myself were in tears of joy hearing the announcement of Cr. Seetha winning the post of LCI Vice President. It is only because of Cr. Seetha’s hard work and dedication to Ladies Circle .

Another amazing thing happened was when Cr. Kathelene, the new International President, announced her theme for the year `Colour the World„. Even our Indian President’s theme for the year is Colouring lives. It was happy to note that India ’s theme was accepted internationally. Opening ceremony was amazing. All countries’ Circlers in their traditional dresses went walking in a procession from the Hotel to the Church. All were looking so beautiful. I took so many pictures of all the Circlers from different countries in special costumes and head gears. .

Opening ceremony in the Church in front of Jesus Christ was a dream come true to me. I remembered old school days in St.Joseph’s Convent and remembered my Principal Sr. Philomena from Ireland , 60 years of her service in India . From the Church we went to a Stadium where gala dinner was served and a lovely Band was playing. There were few traditional English couple dances generally shown in old English movies. I enjoyed all the dances. It shows Estonia though a very small country has lots of cultural values and faith in God. They respect their elders as there were around 30 old men who sang hymns and songs in the Church for opening ceremony in Estonia . The costumes worn by Circlers had lot of sentimental value to them. They were passed on to them by their mother and granies. These costumes they will pass on to their daughters.

On 25th August in the afternoon we went to City Art Gallery . The Museum was some what like Victoria Palace in Kolkata. They were very considerate they gave us tickets at concessional rate as Students Visiting Museum . The country has rich cultural heritage. They are producers of wood and have lots of agricultural land and people are into farming but this occupation is decreasing day by day.

Tulli an Estonian Circler said that she will come to pick us from Art Gallery . She had sent her friend and even called her daughter to pick us from the museum. It shows the personal attention given to each delegate attending conference.

On 25th August 2007 The Hall was shimmering with light and concentration of Beauties. All participants dressed up beautifully. Their attires were worth seeing with matching footwear. When I complimented them, they said Sari is the best. Around 12 Musicians were playing the Bells (120 Tons). The ears could hear serene melody. Estonical National Folk song was played. Melody was moving in ears like bubbles of water. Tranquility could be felt. Sky was full of lights and I was feeling great because I got so much love and affection from Circlers of different countries. They gave me pins and they took so many photographs of mine. It was a great moment of happiness that so many people liked us and our Sarees.

After the conference National President Mona and Myself went to Finland and had great time with 2 Circlers. Neena and Thomas in Helsinki took care of us, made us very comfortable at their home and gave us their kitchen to cook dishes delicious of our own choice.
